The “action” card for today is the 4 of Swords. I’ve been anticipating this pull all week (although dreading is probably more accurate).

At first glance, the most striking thing about the pairing of this card and the Thoth Tower as “background” influence is the the stark color contrast: the flaming red of Crowley’s Tower and the icy blue of Meleen’s 4 of Swords are polar opposites chromatically, just as as the affects of Mars and Jupiter are symbolically disjunct (Mars severs, Jupiter aggregates). His card is “hot under the collar,” while hers is saying “just chill.” Even though the 4 of Swords is no match for a trump card, and especially not one as fierce as the Tower, the net effect is a calming one; it takes the “edge” off the situation. If I was concerned about the dire portents usually ascribed to the Tower, here the advice is to sit back and let the risk expire with the ticking of the clock. About the worst thing I can imagine is that, at this point in the day (and I’ve already been out-and-about in heavy traffic this morning), the 4 of Swords could indicate having a “deer-in-the-headlights” moment of immobility if some surprise upset lands on my doorstep. So far, one minor personal episode, however mildly distressing, does not a “Tower” event make.
But there is another likely angle to the situation: the final collapse of a friendship, already accomplished earlier today. Although I was not instrumental in putting the coup-de-grace on it, I’m involved and concur with the outcome. The issue was one of needing to back away and reclaim some personal space. The 4 of Swords is entirely compatible with the perceived need to put a resounding end to the lingering anxiety caused by this relationship, and roll up the welcome mat. In this case, the impact of the Tower’s demise will be a refreshing break from relentless emotional stress, with the 4 of Swords showing “the calm after the storm.” I will certainly benefit due to my uncomfortable proximity to the situation as it was. If one is looking for a positive expression of the archetypal Mars energy, this is it: crash-and-burn followed by blessed relief.
